News Detail

Surgery results in permanent injury.

Patient was undergoing fairly routine bladder biopsy. During the surgery an incidental stone was discovered by the surgeon. Without consent the surgeon decided to break up the stone and attempt removal through the patient's urethra. In doing so, the equipment used by the surgeon grabbed and pulled the urethra and caused 6-7cm of urethra to be removed with the stone. The patient had to be life-flighted to another hospital for repair. Immediate repair was impossible due to other medical circumstances leading to a lengthy 8-10 month period of suffering with the original injury until repair could be completed.
