Beyond his client work, Matt is a recognized educator and thought leader in workers’ compensation law. Along with Frank Gallucci, he serves as an editor of the Ohio AFL-CIO Workers’ Compensation Manual and regularly presents educational programs for attorneys, labor organizations, and professional associations throughout Ohio.
Matt graduated from Miami University, where he studied political science and played collegiate baseball. He earned his Juris Doctor from The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law.
Baseball and law run in the Copp family. Matt’s father, Rick, played for the 1966 Ohio State University NCAA Baseball Championship team. His great-great uncle was Branch Rickey, an attorney who was one of the most influential executives in the history of baseball, signing the first African American player, Jackie Robinson, in 1945.
Matt’s passion for competition and excellence extends beyond the courtroom. A lifelong sports enthusiast, he enjoys attending sporting events, staying active, and spending time with his wife and adult children.
