Shawn McKinley

Shawn brings more than three decades of executive decision-making experience in Ohio workers’ compensation law and public service to the fight for Plevin & Gallucci clients before the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation and the Ohio Industrial Commission.

His distinguished career has spanned nearly every facet of the workers’ compensation system, including 25 years with the Industrial Commission. Most recently as a Staff Hearing Officer and previously as a District Hearing Officer, he spent 20 years presiding over more than 25,000 workers’ compensation cases. He has been a claims service specialist for the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation, a claims examiner for a managed care organization, a paralegal in the Ohio Attorney General’s Office, and a legal assistant to a former chairman and employer member of the Industrial Commission.

Shawn also has been deeply involved in organized labor. As a member of the Ohio Civil Service Employees Association, Shawn served both as an officer in his local union chapter and at the statewide level for the Ohio Industrial Commission. He has been a frequent speaker and mock- hearing participant at the Ohio AFL-CIO Workers’ Compensation School, an annual program dedicated to educating workers and advocates across the state.

He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, cum laude, from Ohio University and a Juris Doctor from Capital University Law School.

Outside the office, Shawn enjoys spending time with family and friends, hunting, working on his golf game, and cheering for Cleveland’s sports teams.
